2nd international conference of the UNESCO chair, Bordeaux, 15th-14th March 2016
Rectors and presidents in charge of the different francophone higher institutions members of the Unitwin network will meet in Bordeaux (14-15 March 2016) in order to define the 2016-2019 strategy of the chair in association with its different private and public partners.

Presentation of the UNESCO chair
Created in June 2010, the UNESCO chair "Education, training and research for sustainable development" was renewed for a four-year period. The chair is based in the Bordeaux Polytechnic Institute (Bordeaux-INP) and hosted by ENSEGID, one of the eigth graduate school of Bordeaux-INP. This renewal was accompanied by the membership of several universities from countries not represented to date in the UNITWIN network as Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Slovakia and Vietnam. The UNESCO chair and its UNITWIN network is designed to better mobilize the Francophone academic and scientific actors in order to enable more efficient and more visible development of policies, capacity and instruments relating to education, training and research for sustainable development (read more…).
The UNESCO Global Action Programme for Sustainable Development
The Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) generate and scale-up concrete actions in ESD. It is intended to make a substantial contribution to the post-2015 agenda. The GAP is the follow up to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. There is now a growing international recognition of ESD as an integral element of quality education and a key enabler for sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the global community over the next 15 years include ESD in the targets. In 2013, the 37th session of the General Conference of UNESCO endorsed the GAP on ESD as the follow-up to the Decade (37 C/Resolution 12). The GAP on ESD comes with a detailed implementation Roadmap. The Roadmap communicates the GAP endorsed by UNESCO Member States to decision-makers, stakeholders and actors, and provides suggestions for the implementation of the GAP, as well as details on UNESCO’s role (http://en.unesco.org/gap)
17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
At the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015, world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030. The Sustainable Development Goals, otherwise known as the Global Goals, build on the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs), eight anti-poverty targets that the world committed to achieving by 2015.
The French digital University for Environment and Sustainable Development – UVED, a member of the chair's Unitwin network, is one of the seven thematic digital universities created several years ago by the Higher education ministry of France. Its role is to index, produce and make available open educational resources useful for teaching, learning and assessing as well as for research purposes. For several months, UVED is invested in the production and dissemination of multi-institutional MOOCs designed to provide appropriated answers to society's expectations in the different fields of environment and sustainable development (Read more). All these MOOCs are accessible via a dedicated platform, "France Université Numérique – FUN" (www.FUN.fr). During the 18th last months have been produced 5 MOOCs on the following issues: circular economy and innovation, biodiversity, renewable energies, education for sustainable development, causes and issues of climate change.
Objectives of the chair
The project, developed as part of an extended inter-university partnership, has several objectives :
1. To train teachers in order to improve education and training on sustainable development by taking into account the specific environmental, socio-economic and cultural issues of the countries involved.
