The UNESCO chair "Education, training and research for sustainable development" and the UNITWIN network have joined together to better mobilise the Francophone university world in order to more efficiently and visibly develop policies, abilities and resources for education, training and research and the transfer of knowledge for sustainable development.

The project, developed as part of an extended inter-university partnership, has several objectives :
1. To train teachers in order to improve education and training on sustainable development by taking into account the specific environmental, socio-economic and cultural issues of the countries involved.

3-4 June 2010 : establishing the network and launching actions :
The June conference in Bordeaux made it possible to analyse the potential of each of the universities and to identify the expectations of the university communities and the other members of society in education, training, information and research on sustainable development in order to define the main actions to develop as part of a common strategy applied locally, nationally and regionally.

On 3 and 4 June 2010, the first conference of the network of francophone universities for education, training, and research for sustainable development took place.

2010-2013 : setting up of an action plan for the network and monitoring progress :
For four years the actions chosen by the heads of the chair and the multi-partner steering committee will be developed. These actions will be monitored and assessed using specific indicators, especially those of UNESCO and UNECE. These four years correspond with the four year term of 2010-2013 of the International Francophone Organisation and the end of the United Nations decade of education for sustainable development.
