7 – Basic and Educational Research

It is particularly important to integrate sustainable development more into research programmes.

This research consists of two aspects: basic research and final research with a transfer of knowledge and an emphasis on research into education.

Basic research

There is not really any basic research into sustainable development as such but sustainable development could be incorporated more into research fields as follows :

  • encouraging transversal research programmes and better promoting the results of these programmes;
  • renewing the bonds between Man and Nature, in order to return to a greater appreciation of Man’s place and role in an environment that he has strongly changed and made more fragile;
  • organise the community of researchers around the risks of sustainable development;
  • develop external alliances with other universities and various partners;
  • put in place surveillance structures on sustainable development;

Educational Research

Several establishments, including the INRP (National Institute for Pedagogical Research) shall develop multi-category research to implement instructional engineering. This research relies on a policy of dynamic scientific exchanges and on strengthening the liaison between research laboratories and the various bodies in charge of training teachers in order to develop three main areas: scientific research in education and training, monitoring and expertise in support of public policies, making resources available for teachers or educators.
